Introduction

As soon as we arrived at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, we immediately felt the sense of occasion that comes with staying somewhere truly exceptional. The hotel occupies the upper levels of Merdeka 118 — the second-tallest building in the world — and that elevation shapes the entire experience.

With around 250 rooms and suites, it feels deliberately intimate for a property of this scale. What struck me most was the calm: above the city’s constant motion, everything slows down. Thoughtful Malaysian design details, expansive views through floor-to-ceiling windows, and the brand’s signature restraint create a stay that’s quietly luxurious rather than showy. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, look out over Kuala Lumpur, and appreciate just how special the setting really is.

Arrival and Check-In

As soon as we entered Merdeka 118, the lobby staff took our bags and guided us through the arrival process, allowing us to simply follow along and take it all in. The journey to the hotel unfolds in stages — first an escalator, then a dedicated lift that rises high into the building.

One thing that stood out was the check-in experience itself: it was conducted standing at the check-in counter, which felt noticeably different from other luxury hotels, particularly for suite bookings where the process is often handled seated in a club lounge or even in the suite. While the service was polished and efficient, this more traditional approach contrasted with the otherwise elevated and serene arrival experience.

Park Suite with King Bed

At around 104–115 m², the suite is surprisingly spacious, with clearly defined zones for living, working, and relaxing. I loved having a separate living room, a king-bed bedroom, and even a small study area — perfect whether I wanted to unwind, entertain, or catch up on work.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were breathtaking, framing sweeping views of Kuala Lumpur that shifted from the soft morning glow to the city lights at night. I found myself pausing constantly just to take it all in (and to take many photos). The suite’s design features warm Malaysian-inspired tones, premium bedding, a walk-in wardrobe (which was huge and easily my favourite part of the suite) and intuitive lighting and climate controls. Speaking of which, the air conditioning in the room stopped working on the first night, which was an absolute disappointment especially since no other suitable suites were available for us to move to.

The bathroom in the Park Suite was nothing short of spectacular. It features a huge walk-in shower with a rain showerhead that makes every shower feel indulgent, as well as a large soaking bathtub perfectly positioned to overlook the city. Every detail, from the sleek fixtures to the thoughtful layout, reinforced the suite’s sense of calm luxury, while the Le Labo bath amenities added an extra touch of refined indulgence.

Just look at the view!

During our stay, we were fortunate to tour the Presidential Suite, and it was truly extraordinary. The space is immense, offering a sense of scale and privacy that feels more like a private residence than a hotel room.

Just one section of the expansive presidential suite

It featured not one, not two, but three (!) living rooms and even a water fountain at the entrance to the suite.

The bathroom alone is astonishingly large, featuring a freestanding soaking tub, a massive walk-in rain shower, dual vanities, and indulgent finishes throughout. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide sweeping city views, making it a space where luxury, comfort, and perspective seamlessly come together — an unforgettable experience for anyone seeking the pinnacle of high-rise hospitality.

Welcome Amenities and Turndown Service

The welcome amenities at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur were a delightful introduction to the hotel’s thoughtful luxury. Upon arrival, we were presented with a beautifully arranged tiffin container filled with traditional Malaysian treats — a layered cake, curry puffs, and truffle chocolates — each bite offering a taste of the region’s flavors.

Alongside this, we were gifted a bottle of wine, local artisan chocolate and a selection of fresh fruits, making the welcome feel both personal and indulgent. In the evenings, the turndown service added another layer of care: the suite was softly lit, the bed perfectly prepared, and small touches throughout ensured a seamless transition into the night, leaving us feeling completely pampered and cared for.

Breakfast

Breakfast was truly a highlight of our stay, understandably so given the food scene in Malaysia. Served in the elegant Park Lounge on Level 75, the experience blends a buffet of fresh pastries, breads, fruits, cold cuts, yoghurt and more with an unlimited à‑la‑carte menu of made‑to‑order delights — so you’re never limited to what’s on display.

The delicious pastries being restocked!

The kaya toast with soft‑boiled egg is a must‑try, beautifully presented with rich kaya and butter on pillowy bread that captures a local favourite in elevated form. We also loved options like nasi lemak, waffles made to order, dim sum and more traditional favourites alongside Western classics, all with impeccable flavour and quality.

The drink and tea menu is exceptional too, with a superb selection of premium loose‑leaf teas and refreshing beverages that elevate the morning ritual. My hojicha latte with pandan foam was so good I ordered it multiple times and finished it while craving for more. Whether you prefer to graze the buffet or savour a leisurely multi‑course breakfast, this is one of the best breakfast experiences in Kuala Lumpur.

Hotel Spa and Facilities

The spa, perched on the 99th floor, offers a serene retreat with private treatment suites, each designed to cocoon you in calm before and after your treatment. I indulged in a signature massage that began with a breathing ritual and made full use of the Sky Sanctuary hydrotherapy area, which beautifully blends relaxation with panoramic city views. There are bespoke rituals inspired by natural rhythms and traditional wellness practices, from stress‑relief therapies to facial and body treatments that leave you feeling renewed.

Adjacent to the spa is one of my favourite spaces in the hotel — the 30‑metre infinity pool. Illuminated by natural light and framed by floor‑to‑ceiling windows, it’s a stunning place to swim or simply unwind with a drink on the deck, all while taking in sweeping skyline views that feel almost cinematic. That said, I did notice that the windows by the pool were very dirty and stained, which slightly affected the clarity of the views, and some of the water jar holders were rusty, a minor but visible detail that stood out in an otherwise polished space.

For fitness, the 24‑hour gym is impressively equipped with Life Fitness cardio and strength machines, plus a dedicated movement studio where complimentary classes like sunrise or gentle flow sessions are offered — perfect for maintaining balance during travel. Additional facilities like the steam room, sauna, and Himalayan salt chamber provide quiet spaces to relax, detox, and reset after a long day of exploring the city.

Departure

The check-out process was handled with the same thoughtful attention as the rest of our stay. The manager on duty personally came over to apologise for the air conditioning issue we experienced during our visit, which felt sincere and attentive, despite no tangible solution. They offered to host us for an afternoon tea on our next trip as an attempt to resolve the inconvenience. The process overall was smooth, efficient, and personal — a fitting end to a stay that consistently blended luxury with care.

Conclusion

Room: 8.5/10

The suite was exceptionally spacious, thoughtfully laid out, and elegantly designed, blending contemporary luxury with subtle Malaysian touches. I loved the separate living area, king-sized bed, and the bathroom with its oversized rain shower, soaking tub, and Le Labo amenities. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered breathtaking city views that made the space feel even more expansive. Small details, like the occasional maintenance touch needed, kept it from being perfect.

Breakfast: 9.5/10

Breakfast was a true highlight of our stay. The combination of a buffet and à-la-carte options allowed for a tailored, indulgent experience. The kaya toast was an absolute must-try, perfectly paired with soft-boiled eggs, and the menu also offered a delightful selection of local and international dishes. The drinks and tea selection was outstanding, with premium loose-leaf teas and fresh juices that made mornings feel elevated and special.

General Areas: 8/10

The hotel’s public spaces are sleek, modern, and visually stunning, with soaring ceilings and panoramic views that reinforce the sense of being high above the city. The lounges, hallways, and lobby exude calm elegance, though some areas showed minor signs of wear. Overall, the spaces are very comfortable and well-maintained, creating a welcoming environment.

Facilities: 9/10

The wellness and leisure facilities are top-notch. The spa, perched high in the building, offers private treatment suites and a hydrotherapy area that feels like a sanctuary. The infinity pool is breathtaking, though the windows were a little dirty and some water jar holders rusty, which slightly detracted from the otherwise flawless experience. The gym is well-equipped, and the yoga and movement studio adds a thoughtful wellness element. Steam rooms, saunas, and Himalayan salt chambers complete the restorative offerings.

Service: 8/10

Staff were professional, warm, and attentive, providing thoughtful touches such as handling our luggage, personalised check-ins, and turndown service. The manager personally apologised for the air-conditioning issue we experienced and even offered afternoon tea on our next visit, which felt sincere and memorable. A few small inconsistencies prevented the service from feeling entirely seamless, but overall it was very polished.

Value: 8/10

Considering the location, views, suite size, and high-end amenities, the hotel offers strong value for a luxury experience. The combination of thoughtfully curated touches, spa and wellness facilities, and elevated breakfast make it worthwhile, though minor service and maintenance gaps slightly temper the overall value.
